Over a hundred people, including staff, friends, family, area politicians and well wishers, crowded the lobby of the Ellenville Regional Hospital on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 to celebrate the dedication of the facility's new Women's Health Center. Mildred Resnick, wife of co-founder, the late Louis Resnick, was honored for her support and generosity as a fundraiser for an area institution that until recently was in peril.

The ceremony began at 10:30 and featured remarks by hospital President and CEO, Steve Kelley, State Senator John. J. Bonacic and Chairman of the hospital's Board of Trustees, Robert Kuhlman.

Senator Bonacic said, "It is the heart of the Resnick family that we are honoring today." He then referred to Mrs. Resnick as, "a pillar of the community."

Mrs. Resnick offered her own remarks saying, "I have been privileged to do anything in my power to help Ellenville Regional Hospital survive." Mrs. Resnick also recognized the people around her by declaring, "I am honored at being chosen and I am honored to live and work with people of such dedication."

After the ceremony, refreshments were served as several in the crowd made their way to Mrs. Resnick to offer their appreciation and congratulation.

Mrs. Resnick told the Ellenville Journal that the day was very exciting. "I never expected that this was going to happen," she exclaimed.

Asked how she felt about the hospital and her role in its existence, Mrs. Resnick replied, "I feel that the hospital is the most important facility in the area. And we need it so desperately, so I try to do what I can."

Mrs. Resnick has been the backbone of many hospital fundraising projects, including the Annual Dinner Dance Journal and Tag Day. She has also taken a special interest in women's health issues, which was the basis for the Board's decision to dedicate the Women's Health Center to her. The Women's Health Center will be located in the Hospital's Radiology Department and will provide Bone Density, Mammography and Ultrasound Services.
