PINE BUSH – May 1 in Pine Bush is Paint the Town Purple Day, as the build up to the Relay for Life begins. This year there will be a ceremony on Boniface Drive at 7 p.m. with music, some singing, and a few speeches to mark the creation of the Mural of Hope. The sidewalk on Boniface drive has been "sold" to sponsors to decorate for a cancer survivor or in memory of a loved one claimed by the disease and thus create the mural.

When darkness falls, there will be a flashlight walk to view the mural and celebrate the day. The Pine Bush Area Chamber of Commerce/Boys & Girls Club Relay for Life team is to have a fundraiser on the day by having butterflies painted on the windows of participating businesses in the town. The cost is $5 per butterfly with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. For more details, contact Ellen Quimby at 744-3946.
