Keith Goldberg, a reporter for the Times Herald-Record, wrote the following story that led me to attend the hearing of this stupid or cruel woman. It doesn't matter, because either way she caused serious, serious animal suffering.

"Town police Wednesday arrested a woman in connection with the two neglected horses found on a property on Prosperous Valley Road earlier this month.

"Keum H. Lee, 58, who police say admitted she was responsible for the horses' care, was charged with two counts of animal cruelty, a misdemeanor. She was issued an appearance ticket and is due back in Town Court on May 27."

The woman pleaded not guilty and must appear for her trial on June 24, 2009, at noon.

If anyone would like to join with me at the Wallkill Township building on June 24 at 11 a.m. it would be appreciated. We need at least 10 people to carry signs protesting the cruelty to a horse. Keum H. Lee not only is charged with letting her horse almost starve to death, but let a halter grow into the animal's face. The only reason Suzie was rescued was due to the fact that she got loose and out onto the road. I don't care whether you speak English or not, as this woman appears to be saying, by appearing in court with an interpreter. Anyone can see if an animal is losing weight, knows if they are not feeding her, and knows to check a halter or collar to see if it is too tight. You do not simply turn a horse out into a pasture. Even if you fed the animal, she wouldn't be able to eat without her jaw working. Duh! One of my vet tech friends told me of a man who did just that and by fall, some had halters that were growing into the face. How stupid can a person be? This is not the usual horse owner; he was someone who sold them to auctions.

Suzie had to undergo a six hour operation and is not doing well. I am hoping that by our protest, we will make an impression on the general public going into the courtroom and be covered by the Times Herald-Record. We will be there from 11 a.m. to noon when the trial begins. We cannot go into the courtroom with signs, we will not shout or harass anyone, and my husband and I will make the signs. Please come and help me tell people that in the United States we do not allow animal cruelty.

The building is at 99 Tower Drive, Middletown. You can get to it by taking Route 17E to exit 120 E then Route 211 E and turn left on N. Galleria/Tower Drive. Or you could take Route 52 to Route 302 in Pine Bush, turn left at the light in Circleville at a white church, then after about three miles, turn right at the light by another Big White Church, almost immediately, go right onto Silver Lake/Scotchtown Rd and turn left at Tower Dr. just before the bridge. Then go two miles and it is on your right. If you email me I could have you follow me. The phone number of the building is 692-7822. Email me at: loosly@verizon.net or just show up. Thank you.

I found on the internet some other cases of animal abuse in our area. This is from Shelter Tails. A man from Poughkeepsie put a little yellow dog in a clothing charity bin and he was in there for a week with no food or water. The man was convicted and got eight months in jail. Yeah! My punishment would have been a week in a clothing bin for the man. Years ago I read about a guy who put puppies in a dump in Maine in January. The judge gave him a choice: jail or overnight in the dump. The guy tried the dump and lasted about an hour and then asked for jail.

In another case, according to the Sullivan County Democrat, the owner of three horses was arrested in Phillipsport and charged with three counts of animal cruelty. He goes to court in Mamakating on June 11. I will be there too. The lawmakers have to know that people really care and do not want animals mistreated.
