Farmer's Market Returns to Ellenville on June 21

ELLENVILLE – It's just about summer, and you know what that means: it's time for the Third Annual Ellenville Farmer's Market, held every Sunday through October.

"We can expect to have another exciting season at the Farmer's Market," said co-coordinator of the market, Mike Siegel.

All the favorite vendors from last year's market will be back again to sell you their wares, ranging from farm-fresh produce to baked goods, to fresh mozzarella. One such vendor, Saunderskill Farms, is one of the state's two tricentennial farms, so termed because it has been operating continuously for over 300 years. Saunderskill will be offering their fresh fruits and vegetables — very likely to be considerably younger than 300 years old, of course.

Also returning to the market will be Burd Farm and the Rondout Valley Organics CSA, who will be offering fresh produce of their own. Panzerella Foods will be returning to their spot at the market to offer their Italian specialties, including their fresh mozzarella cheese, a big hit over the last two years. Offering cakes, pies, and other sweet treats, will be Ellenville's own Cohen's Bakery, who will be joined by another village-business: newcomer Gaby's Café, which will be offering homemade ice cream, nachos, and their signature, made-from-scratch guacamole.

Fans of music as well as food should get excited, too. Asha Gollhier, who, along with Iris Friedman, is one of the three co-coordinators of the Farmer's Market, tells of an exciting lineup of music and entertainment that will be appearing this season. On June 28, dynamic folk duo Rick Patel and Karen Whitman will be offering their songs for gathered crowds to enjoy, while July 12 will see an appearance from Breakneck Annie, a band featuring Ellenville High School history teacher Graham Vest. Also upcoming will be Larry Kitzmiller from Neversink, Michael Aguierre and Friends, Ellie Wininger, Denise Finly Jordan, Cleoma's Ghost, and Daniel Pagdon, with plenty of other acts still yet to be announced.

Not only that, but the Ellenville Public Library will be on hand to sign up participants for the summer reading program…and those who sign up will be able to get free ice cream from Stewart's Shops! If ever there were motivation to get reading this summer, you can hardly do better than free ice cream. And if that weren't enough, the Hunt Memorial Building's used book sale is in full swing all season long, so if you've been jonesing for something to read, Ellenville's got you covered.

The first Farmer's Market will be held this Sunday, June 21, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will be back each and every Sunday through October. The market is stationed at the corner of Center and Market Streets in Ellenville.
