We still do not know what the Grand Jury of Orange County has decided about Keum H. Lee and the horses that nearly died under her care — or I should say, no care. She claimed illness last week, so the prosecutor has given her one more chance to tell her story or they will proceed. The SPCA took the rest of her animals which consisted of goats, chickens and ducks. Lee's husband is a doctor in Brooklyn.

My old boy, Jimbo, started limping the other night. He seems better, but at age 12-and-a-half, he is really slowing down. At 10, he stopped being able to get into the car, at age 11 he stopped being able to go for walks, and now he can only go down the driveway and back. And he even takes Rimadyl for arthritis every day. His eyes are cloudy and he is deaf, but he still enjoys his meals...does he ever! He still loves his belly rubs and being with his family. I admit he is overweight, but I want him to enjoy his last years very much. What good would putting him on a diet do if he only has six months or so? I strongly believe in weighing options as to quality of life compared to longevity and the fact that an animal does not understand why something is good or not good for him. I strongly oppose chemotherapy, dialysis, and other painful, upsetting, or stressful treatments for animals. It depends on their ages, of course, and the treatment. A cat who has to have fluids stuck in his back every day and be taken to the vet's office, that frightens him, is wrong in my opinion. It is for the benefit of the people, not the animal, really. Why should a pet spend a miserable time to only live a few more months or even a year? We really need to be honest when we consider these tough and expensive treatments. Who is it for?

News from PETA's,
Animal Times magazine —Summer 2009:
Some investigators worked undercover at Rainbow World Exotics who supply PETCO and PetSmart. They found hamsters discarded alive in trash cans. The PETA people took them to a vet and adopted them, but how horrible. I have always, always wanted to know what happens to the animals not sold in these pet shops. They won't say — which means it is bad.
My beloved Sir Paul McCartney's lovely daughter, Stella, made a 30-second video for PETA about furs. It shows a rabbit and an alligator who want their skins back. The musician named Pink and comedian Ricky Gervais are the voices. You can probably see it on YouTube or go to PETA.org.
"Other stars who are supporting PETA are: Chrissie Hynde (who set off a campaign exposing McDonald's, by a sign that says, "McCruelty-i'm hatin' it"), Cloris Leachman, Ginnifer Goodwin, Alanis Morissette, Dream Walker, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, and Cicely Tyson are all vegetarians.
