Nevele Listing Raises Questions

ELLENVILLE – As the September 1 auction date for the Nevele Grande Resort draws closer, questions have arisen regarding the listing on Auction America Realty's website. Sue Nibe, the Sales Manager for the Honor's Haven Resort that neighbors the Nevele's grounds, and a former Nevele employee, pointed out some inaccuracies included on the listing for the Nevele.

"Part of the thing that is frustrating is… the information that is on there regarding the Nevele is totally inaccurate," said Nibe.

She said that the listing's number of 462 rooms should read 430; that the golf course has only 18 holes of golf, not 27 (since nine holes were sold to the Honor's Haven); the number of tennis courts was overestimated, and that the distance from New York City was underestimated at 75 miles rather than the actual 90 miles. She also pointed out that the fishing and boating lake was actually on the Honor's Haven side of the property as well.

"If somebody is going to put something up for auction, I think they need to have the information accurate," said Nibe.

However, when asked about the discrepancies on Wednesday via a phone interview, Marvin Neuman, the owner of Auction America Realty and the man handling the sale, said that he had been receiving several updates to correct the information on the listing.

"I get all my information from the seller," he said, referring to the resort's owner, Joel Hoffman, "and I have changed six things already that were brought to my attention. What I would appreciate is if anyone sees anything, any information that was given to me that is incorrect, I will immediately, within hours, correct it. Just that it is a huge hotel, and there are things that come up, so I apologize and want people to know that I am not responsible for all information, my buyers do have to verify things. But nobody's been upset, and we're not looking in any way, shape, or form to give misinformation."

Neuman said that the differing number of holes on the golf course had already been brought to his attention. As to the distance of 75 miles from New York City, he said that the information came from what was written on a sign near the exit on the highway, and that "we didn't clock it to the gate." He said that he would be updating the listing to be accurate within hours of the interview that day.

Despite the web listing's inaccuracies, Neuman said that his progress in generating interest in the resort is going very well.

"I got 4,127 inquiries and requests for my information booklet. I have two of the largest hotel companies — that I'm not at liberty to give you their names — that are interested in coming in to the Nevele," he said. "I have offers that are almost double what [Joel Hoffman's] last offers were, so I know that everyone will get paid back, which was his goal.

"I'm just sad that I wasn't involved earlier," he continued. "A very, very prestigious firm was trying to handle the sale of the Nevele [Manhattan based-Eastern Consolidated] and they were unable to do in a year what I was able to do in three weeks, which is to create a love of the mountains.

"I am, like, on a one-man crusade with my company. We are just going all over to try to make people realize that the Catskill region can completely resurge because of the economic issues. People are not flying all over the map, and we are in a position of power now, that we have something that the population would enjoy."
