Nevele Visited by Potential Buyers, Winter-Proofing Work Continues

ELLENVILLE – Sandra Young, the general manager of the Nevele Grande Resort even now that it's closed its doors, has been overseeing work to prepare the resort for the cold of winter.

"Nothing's going on yet, no buyer yet, but there's potential buyers. We're actually in the process of winterizing [the resort]," says Young. The resort closed its doors in July, and since that time has been awaiting a buyer to take it off the hands of Long Island businessman Joel Hoffman. In the intervening months, Auction America Realty's Marvin Neuman was hired to sell the property, and even reported having a contract signed by a buyer back in early September. Since then, the supposed buyer was allegedly unable to come through with the money, and the resort awaits another savior.

Currently, Young has been leading the activity to keep the resort in showing shape, and that involves coordinating workers who have been draining water out of the resort's inactive pipes to keep them from freezing over the winter. This past January, one of the resort's buildings' pipes burst and turned a room into a crystalline ice-hazard.

"You have to do every sprinkler head, every toilet, every drain, every AC unit," says Young of the work being conducted on the grounds.

Furthermore, Young herself says she has been showing the property to prospective buyers.

"We have a lot of people who've come to see it, but I think we have a potential [buyer] and we're hoping for something to happen soon," she says. Asked if she's spoken with Marvin Neuman lately, Young says, she hasn't.

"In the past few weeks, I've shown it to six different potential buyers," says Young. "I'm hoping for something to happen by the beginning of the year…there's serious talk about it."
