ELLENVILLE – If you were sitting somewhere quiet at 1:41 p.m. this past Wednesday, you might have wondered why the ground was shaking. But don't worry; you weren't hallucinating. As it turns out, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake, with an epicenter 38 miles north of Ottawa, Canada, shook the northeast section of the country. The quake was felt in the Journal newsroom, and was also apparently felt in Michigan and Ohio, as well.
There was some minor damage reported in Ottawa, and buildings were evacuated there as well as in Toronto. The news organization Agence France-Presse also reported that cracks appeared in the Parliamentary Press Gallery building in Ottawa.
There was no apparent damage in our area.
