Cheer For The Cheerleaders!
Pine Bush Rocks On A National Level Again

Pine Bush had a great sports week, led by its top notch cheerleading crew for yet another year. But with a swimming team that moves on to state competition in the coming weeks, as well.

The Pine Bush cheerleader squad added its sixth consecutive Sectional title, and eighth out of the past nine, at the Cheerleader Section 9 competition at Kingston High School last Saturday, February 16.

"This year we had a difficult stunt sequence featuring no-handed pull ups," said Coach Cherie Ramsay after the tournament. "We reloaded to a one-and-a quarter 'up,' to a single leg. The difficulty factor in this is at the top of the bracket."

More importantly, on February 9th and 10th Pine Bush cheerleaders won 12th place in the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Florida, broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2. This was Pine Bush's third time making it, following outings in 2010 and 2012 (they got caught in the preliminaries there in 2010 and to 13th last year).

As for the school's other sporting triumphs... Pine Bush boys swimmers rolled up 326 points to win their fifth straight Section 9 Swimming championship on Saturday at Valley Central, with New Paltz coming in second with 301 points, Minisink Valley in third with 256, and Cornwall and Monroe-Woodbury tying for fourth with 216.

Pine Bush won only a single event, the 100 yard breast stroke taken by Padraic Thompson, but the team performance, from Stephen Lowe, Brendin Thompson, Jake Borkowski, Tyler Alexander, Michael Adenaike, Joe Gwillym, Bryan Walsh, and Henry Eisloeffel, pushed Pine Bush in front and kept them there.

Pine Bush boys swimmers now go on to State Championships on March 2 and 3 at Webster Schroeder High School, in the further upstate community of Webster.

Pine Bush Cheerleaders will go on to their state finals at Rochester, also March 2.
