Heard Around Our Towns...
There is news, and then there's lots of talk...

In Ellenville –
You can't complain about local candidates not taking the heat. Both John Faso and Zephyr Teachout, running to replace Chris Gibson as the region's Congressional representative, made it to the Blueberry Festival this past weekend to meet and greet. As did Gibson himself...

In Rochester –
Remember that law passed about keeping chickens that disturb neighbors? It's getting challenged, and the press is starting to pay attention. Talk about changing times making news!

In Orange County –
Talk about complex times. Everyone's finally acknowledging the huge, and increasing role that tourism plays in the county, while concerns are rising about whether residents want a Legoland in their midst or not. And to think how recently people were clamoring for casinos!

In The Region –
The state has announced a pile of grants and loans to help municipal water systems around the state, and within the greater Hudson Valley, with nods to Kingston, Middletown, Newburgh... and the biggest amount of moolah, over $20 million in loans and grants, to the Village of Kiryas Joel. Let's see how this schism between state nods to new communities and local sensibilities goes now...

In The State –
We've received a petition against a proposal to raise the governor's salary alongside state legislators and agency heads... by 47 percent. The idea behind the first pay jump in 17 years was to take out the need for outside work that's snarled state government in controversies, and jail terms, over the past year. But there's a caveat... while supporting the measure, at least for legislators and administrators, Cuomo is saying this HAS to be discussed in public before anything happens. Trust issues, anyone?
