Heard Around Our Towns...
There is news, and then there's lots of talk...

In Napanoch –
You know that magnificent but dilapidated structure on 55 where Yama Farms was, the legendary site's gatehouse? The town's finally declared it unsafe and dangerous with an order to repair or demolish by February 2, when a public hearing will be held. So goes history...

In Wawarsing –
Someone filed a FOIL recently for a state police complaint against a local elected representative who was said to have assaulted a constituent. Then again, no charges were filed. Nevertheless, tongues are wagging.

In Wurtsboro –
What about 59-year old Bill Lewis hiking the 278 miles to Washington, D.C., for Donald Trump's inauguration? He says he has a missive to deliver, as well as a hope that simple needs will be recognized.

In The Region –
Pistol permit applications doubled last year, yet also slackened somewhat in the second half of the year. It'd be nice to someday see a study about presidential politics and gun ownership. Also of interest is the governor's new promise to shutter Indian Point nuclear plant... and some of the reactions against that decision.

In the State –
New regulations requiring political consultants to disclose the names of their clients and the public officials who they also work for are becoming effective this month from the state Department of State. The new rules state that individuals who provide political consulting services to elected officials or persons seeking office, and have clients that do business with New York State government, are required to file disclosure statements twice a year with the Department.
