Everyone Back In The Pool!
Ellenville Summers Just Got Cooler Again

ELLENVILLE – Ellenville's "school pool" is finally open as of 10:30 a.m. July 5.

According to Ellenville/Wawarsing Youth Commission Director Sam Bugna, the significant repairs that dragged into last season, rendering the pool closed for the 2016 summer, have been completed. And everyone at Camp Shawangunk, the town's summer youth camp she runs, is very excited.

Ellenville High junior and this year's camp counselor-in-training Megan Ryan added, as kids entered the pool behind her, that campers ranging in age from kindergarten to eighth grade are all thrilled the pool opened this week.

"They're loving it," she noted as a bunch of campers cannon-balled off the deep end of the ECSD campus facility.

Extensive repairs on the 70 years-plus old pool began in winter of 2016, with all three responsible parties — the Ellenville School District, Town of Wawarsing and Village of Ellenville each paying an equal third, about $30,000, for the sealing of cracks, changing of valves and pumps and pressure washing.

Town highway employees pitched in to help speed up the repairs as the school year came to a close, ensuring the pool's readiness for the summer season.

The Ellenville pool is open daily from 12 noon to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost of admittance for residents is $1 for students/seniors and $4 for adults, with single season passes available for $50 and family passes for $100. For more information regarding the Ellenville pool, call 647-5807.

In Kerhonkson, another public pool is open daily from 12 noon to 6 p.m. daily off Route 209 at the Kerhonkson Elementary School. That's where Camp Shawangunk campers went last summer. The cost of admittance is the same as the Ellenville school pool, with non-resident swimmers purchasing a $10 daily pass for either pool, or non-residents, single or family season passes at $150 or $250, respectively.

Swim lessons are offered at the Kerhonkson pool for two week spans. For more information, 626-7876.

Similar pool repairs, closed-season frustrations, and exuberant re-openings occurred in Rosendale as well in recent years.

Last one in's a rotten egg!
