MIDDLETOWN – Ah, spring. The season when flowers, grass and trees grow — along with all of the litter. It is so aggravating — one of my biggest peeves. My family cleans up part of our road periodically to try and keep it looking nice in our little neck of the woods. But take a car ride down the road a little ways and the litter starts and never ends. A few weeks ago, I passed a road crew from the Town of Wallkill cleaning up the trash. A couple of weeks later that same area was almost as bad as it was before they started. Shame. How discouraging it is for those of us who care.
What amazes me is the number of people it must take to produce all of this mess. If we were able to catch these people and fine them, the towns could make a lot of money and the land would be cleaner. Maybe they would stop littering if they got hit in the pocketbook. But they never get caught.
Better yet, make them clean up some of the roads. Come on people. Do the right thing. Find your conscience. What does it take to keep a plastic bag in your vehicle for your trash? When it gets full, put it in a garbage can at home, work, a store, etc. It’s so easy. No excuses! All it takes is a little caring and respect.
