ELLENVILLE – In Ellenville, the July 4th parade was big and GRAND! From fire fighters and rescue personal in their gleaming trucks, to roller skaters and cheerleaders, Shriners to Boy and Girl Scouts, little league to the Ellenville Central School District, church groups, the garden club, the library — they were all there. The Mayor, the Town Supervisor, the County Comptroller… and Remus the corgi mix (a rescue).
It was a heckuva hot day and humid, too — super soakers were shooting and candy was flying. For the kids (of all ages) it was lit up with the excitement of the new, even while they stuffed their mouths with enough sugar to power a locomotive.
And so just for one day, all divisions were abandoned, everyone was just an American, we were equally hot and sweaty, and the flags waved over us all, offering the promise of a community that not only celebrates together in the good times, but bands together no matter what.
