At approximately 12:40 a.m. the morning of Thursday, September 26th, a 2015 black Chevrolet Silverado drove into the newly renovated Dunkin’ at 2380 Route 52 in Pine Bush. The crash wrecked the front of the building, and the truck nearly drove straight through the other side, with impact damage seen on the outside of the building.

Police identified Eric Schrader, 44, a Pine Bush resident, as the driver of the truck who was driving eastbound on Route 52 when he drove into the westbound lane, exited the road and impacted the building. There were no occupants to the building when it was struck. It is unknown what if any charges are pending against him at this time.

The Crawford Police Department initially responded to an iPhone notification of the crash, and the Pine Bush Fire Department, Monticello Fire Department and the Orange County Fire Control and Tech Rescue Team were dispatched to the scene after. The truck was severely entrapped in the tangle of rubble and wire from the now-crumbling building, and rescue units were prevented entry because of damage.

The responding departments and Crawford police officers took approximately three hours to clear the scene. Schrader was rescued at 2:30 a.m. He sustained a serious head injury among other injuries and was transported to Garnet Medical Center who has him currently listed as being in serious condition.

Construction workers were present at the scene later in the morning. They told the Journal that they were assessing the building to see if it should be demolished, which they said was likely to happen since the structural damage to the building is so severe. Afterwards, the Town of Crawford building inspector later assessed the building, deemed it unsafe and issued a demolition permit. By 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, the entire front of the structure had been pulled down.
