The Ulster County Historical Society (UCHS) will host a lecture on Saturday, Oct. 26, focusing on the lives and works of three influential artists from Kingston: Julia McEntee Dillon, Jervis McEntee, and Joseph Tubby. The lecture, titled "Three Friends from Kingston—Dillon, McEntee and Tubby," will be presented by Sanford Levy at 3 p.m. at the Bevier House Museum, located at 2682 Route 209 in Marbletown.

Levy's talk will delve into the artistic relationship between these three friends, who were born in the mid-19th century in the Rondout neighborhood of Kingston. He will discuss how their work captured life along the creek and the evolving landscape of the area during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The lecture will be illustrated with several paintings by the artists.

The UCHS Annual Meeting will precede the lecture at 2 p.m. This meeting is open to UCHS members only.

The Bevier House Museum will be open for its final weekend of the season, featuring the exhibits "Gifts to the Society" and "In the Shadow of Mohonk: A Collection of Family, Art and Heirlooms." "In the Shadow of Mohonk: A Collection of Family, Art and Heirlooms" showcases the history of the Yaple family in Ulster County through artifacts, photographs, and artwork by printmaker and family historian Beverly Bennett, an eighth-generation member of the family. "Gifts to the Society" highlights unique and intriguing objects from the UCHS collection, including scrimshaw, a surgeon's trunk, and magic lantern slides. Visitors can also explore the museum's reconstructed 18th-century manor house kitchen and tool room.

The Ulster County Historical Society, founded in 1859, is the oldest county historical society in New York. The organization is dedicated to preserving Ulster County's history through its collections of artifacts, documents, oral histories, and cultural items.
