Q: What should the Ulster County community as a whole resolve to do this coming year?

Gigi S., 22, Kingston: “We should have a center for kids and teenagers, something called like, ‘Beat the Streets,’ something that kids could get together and stay off of the streets. You know what I mean? Because there's a lot of gang activity going on, drug activity going on, stuff like that. So I think they should have a center for kids, teens, young adults, whoever, come together, whether it's arts and crafts or whatever. I think that would be awesome.”

Fern E., 74, Saugerties: “Housing. Affordable housing. We should do whatever we can to provide more affordable housing. Even if you have to tax certain things to pay for it. Tax the rich.”

Chris J., 32, Kingston: “Fix up the town – the streets and the walkways. Put a recreation center up for the youth, so that way the youth can have something to do. And also for adults, because a lot of homeless adults, they'll be out here also.”

David B., 62, Kingston: “It doesn't affect me directly, personally, but in my mind affordable housing ... if the county could make a resolution to maintain regulations in such a way that it allows for affordable housing with inclusivity and compassion for all those who are in need.”

Katy K., 37, Kingston: “We should keep opening arms to people from outside of the county. I'm thinking of immigrants. I'm wishing for justice. I'm wishing for open-heartedness. I'm wishing for people to be community minded and I'm wishing for people to stretch out of their comfort zones a little bit and try some new things, Ulster County as a whole, and also individuals.”

Eleanor S., 19, Woodstock: “It would be for us to have more small conversations with people around us. I think that a lot of times we don't chat as much as we could. And one of the reasons why I've loved growing up here so much is that it's a really small town, and we get to know everyone. And I think that it would be nice if we tried to keep ourselves from becoming more like New York City, where we don't really chat with our neighbors.”
