A Kingston chiropractor and his wife were arraigned on child pornography charges in Kingston City Court on Tuesday. John Boyle and Danielle Schofield were arrested following an investigation by the New York State Police computer crimes unit.

At an arraignment in Kingston City Court on Tuesday, Ulster County District Attorney Special Victims Bureau Chief Jenna Hastings outlined the allegations against the couple before City Court Judge Phillip Kirschner. According to a report in the Times Union, the state police investigation began last year with a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a nude image of an adolescent girl shared on Snapchat. Police were able to trace the image to an IP address associated with Boyle. Another set of explicit images obtained by NCMEC depicting a girl aged 10-13 were traced to an Airbnb where Boyle and Schofield stayed in August 2023. Data included with the images indicated that they were made at the time of the couple’s stay.

Hastings, according to the Times Union report, told the court that on Oct. 30 last year, a search warrant executed on Boyle’s phone turned up a trove of child sex abuse imagery that included 1,300 photos and 1,811 videos. Some of the images included infants and toddlers and sex with animals, as well as four images of child necrophilia. Police say Boyle shared at least 89 child sexual abuse material (CSAM) images on end-to-end encrypted messaging apps.

The same day police searched Boyle’s phone, Schofield was arrested on felony charges of possessing obscene sexual performance of a child and possessing a sexual performance by a child. It is unclear why Boyle was not charged at the time.

On Tuesday in city court, prosecutors added a count of promoting an obscene sexual performance by child to the charges against Schofield. The charge typically applies to defendants accused of creating CSAM. Boyle was charged with two counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child and one count of promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child. Schofield was released without bail. Boyle was released on a $200,000 secured bond.

Boyle previously operated Boyle Family Chiropractic located at 12 John St. in Uptown Kingston. On Tuesday, a Google search for the practice indicated that it was permanently closed.
