Republican Assemblyman Brian Maher (R,C-Walden) continued his tour of swearing-in ceremonies at schools in his district this week at Pine Bush High.

Maher was sworn in by Pine Bush alum Orange County Court Judge Craig Brown at Pine Bush. Orange County Clerk Kelly Eskew also attended the event. The Assemblyman said he was inspired to conduct the events at schools by his mentor, the late Senator Bill Larkin.

“Senator Larkin always loved being sworn in with students in his district and I thought I would borrow his idea,” Maher said. “It’s been such a great experience speaking with these inspiring young people and sending them a message of hope and purpose during each ceremony. Our youth are our best chance to beat back this era of political polarization and I think it’s important they know that there are many elected officials out there that are willing to be positive and bipartisan.

Maher, who was elected in the 101^st District 101 in November of 2022, took questions from the students and shared stories about his career journey. He also encouraged the students be the best version of themselves, emphasizing that personal growth is key to bringing about change.

Maher’s district is comprised of parts of Delaware, Orange, Otsego, and Ulster counties, as well as the town of Brookfield in Madison County and the town of Neversink in Sullivan County. He previously served as the Town of Montgomery’s Supervisor, Village of Walden Mayor, and a trusted aide to Larkin.

“It was a pleasure to swear in Assemblyman Maher in front of an auditorium full of Pine Bush High School students,” Judge Brown said. “He understands that effective representative is about getting the job done without worrying about who gets credit for the accomplishments. I thank him for sharing that concept with our next generation of leaders.”
