Two men, including a convicted sex offender on parole, are facing felony charges after, police say, they tried to break into an occupied residence before fleeing police in a brief chase that ended with a collision. Orion McLeod, 53, who also goes by the name Odie Ector, and Vincent Girard, 42, were both remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail following the wild scene on Clinton Avenue on Monday.

According to police, on Monday at 6 p.m., officers responded to a call for two men attempting to force their way into an occupied residence on Clinton Avenue. When patrols arrived, they spotted the pair in a vehicle near the residence with McLeod behind the wheel. Police say McLeod was driving in reverse in a reckless manner while trying to flee the scene when he struck a parked vehicle on Clinton Avenue. Police say McLeod then jumped out of the vehicle and led police on a short foot chase before he was apprehended.

Cops say that both McLeod and Girard were in possession of controlled substances at the time of their arrest. In addition, McLeod’s driver’s license had been both suspended and revoked. Cops allege McLeod also caused damage to the residence while trying to break in.

McLeod was taken to HealthAlliance Hospital where he was treated and released before being arraigned in Kingston City Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail. Girard was also remanded following arraignment in city court.

McLeod is charged with felony counts of second-degree attempted burglary, driving while ability impaired by drugs and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. In addition, McLeod is charged with six misdemeanors and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations. Girard is charged with felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor obstructing governmental administration.

According to state records, at the time of his arrest, McLeod was subject to post-release supervision based on a May 2021 conviction on a charge of criminal sexual act. The conviction is based on a 2019 incident in which, authorities alleged, he sexually assaulted a 24-year-old woman at knifepoint. State records show that he was sentenced to five years in state prison and released in December 2023.
