Donna Boundy, 76, is a psychotherapist who practices in Uptown Kingston. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Kingston Wire: How did you or your family end up in Kingston?

Donna Boundy: Many years ago, in the ’80s, I wound up here because of a chance meeting with a musician who lived in Woodstock. We ended up in a relationship and I ended up in Woodstock. That’s how I got to the area.

KW: What do you like about Kingston?

DB: I love the diversity of it. I love the changes, the creativity. It feels progressive enough. I wish everything was more progressive but I’d much rather live here than most other places politically. I love that there’s always a great restaurant to go to and every single night of the week you can find something interesting to do or attend. We love going to UPAC; we’re going there this Friday and we just went last week. I love the proximity to New York City and Albany. It’s just a great location. People are nice, they say hello and speak to each other. I find it manageable — it’s not so big that it’s overwhelming, but it’s big enough to be interesting.

KW: What would you change about Kingston?

DB: I wish there was less poverty. I wish rents could be less expensive for people. I wish Kingston High School had more supports. I work with a lot of the teachers there as clients and I know them to be really good, dedicated people and great teachers. But it’s not always easy with the poverty aspect of Kingston.

KW: How do you think Kingston will be different in 10 years?

DB: Well, with Trump at the helm I’m afraid for everywhere, including Kingston. I’m afraid for expenses going up, I’m afraid of more poverty, I’m afraid of more people being taken off the streets. I cherish our mixed population and the immigrants that are here and it really has to be frightening for those children and those families. I guess that’s a long way to say that I don’t know what it’s going to be like in 10 years. My fantasy of what I would like it be could be very different than what happens if Trump continues his march towards cruelty.
