A Kingston man with a lengthy criminal record was sentenced to 14 years in state prison following his conviction on gun charges last week. Bryant Williams, 32 had originally secured a deal that would have sent him to prison for eight years for the September 2023 incident, but that deal was voided after police say he robbed a man at a Town of Lloyd hotel while out on bail for the gun charge.

Bryant was arrested by state police in Kingston back on Sept. 16, 2023, after troopers discovered a loaded Glock .45-caliber handgun in his vehicle. He fled the scene and was apprehended one week later. In January 2024, an Ulster County grand jury handed up an indictment charging Bryant with felony counts of gun and drug possession and a misdemeanor count of obstructing governmental administration.

In December 2024, Williams’ attorney, Thomas Petro, reached a plea deal with prosecuting attorney Kristen Druse that would have seen Williams sentenced to eight years in state prison followed by five years post release supervision in exchange for pleading guilty to the gun charge. But the next month, on Jan. 15, 2025, Williams was arrested again in connection with an assault and robbery at a motel in the Town of Lloyd. The victim in the case told police that he was in his room at the motel with his girlfriend and two other women when Williams and another man knocked on the door then assaulted him before fleeing with a large sum of money.

On April 11, with the plea deal no longer in effect, visiting Sullivan County Court Judge James Farrell sentenced Williams to 14 years in state prison on a single felony count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and a misdemeanor assault charge. The sentence covers both the original gun case and the motel robbery.

“This defendant’s history of violence, and his repeated demonstration that he believes he is above the law, has concluded today with a sentence that ensures he will no longer be a threat to our community for the rest of this decade and the next,” said Druse, who heads up the DA’s gun violence unit.
