SPONSORED - Three years ago, Ulster County resident Caroline Jones was flying home from a relaxing tropical vacation in Bermuda when the unthinkable happened – she suffered a stroke mid-flight. Miraculously, she survived, only to endure another stroke last year that left her partially paralyzed, wheelchair-bound, and in the hospital for months.

Originally from London, Caroline spent her time working at a special-needs summer camp in New York after graduating from college. She decided to stay, saying she has always loved the magic of New York, especially the snowy winters. However, that magic was lost in 2022 when she suffered her first stroke, resulting in a grueling 73-day hospitalization and rehabilitation stint. Following her discharge, she thought she was in the clear. That was until 2024, when she suffered a second stroke that left her paralyzed on one side.

“My second stroke presented differently,” Caroline recalled. “I was talking with my husband and suddenly developed a severe headache. After we made it to the hospital, I could no longer move the left side of my body.”

After two weeks in the hospital, Caroline began an intensive physical therapy program at Burke Rehabilitation in White Plains, NY. While this brought some improvement, she was still unable to walk on her own, relying on a wheelchair and a cane to get around.

That all changed when a therapist introduced Caroline to the Bioness L300 Go, a functional electrical stimulation device that improves mobility. Upon first trying the device, she was astonished to see her leg and toes move on their own.

“The first time I used the device, I laughed in disbelief,” said Caroline. “I wished I could record the moment. It was incredible to walk without the fear of falling.”

Steadily, with practice, Caroline’s movements became more stable. After purchasing the device for herself last summer, she has continued to make enormous strides with her mobility – she was even able to ditch her cane entirely in January of 2025.

Today, Caroline is once again able to enjoy all that her life has to offer, such as taking her godchildren on hikes to Saugerties Lighthouse, attending her stepdaughter’s wedding (and even wearing heels!), and traveling to Barbados – all because of her dedication and help from her device.
